Male hypogonadism is a clinical syndrome caused by a lack of androgens or their action. Causes of hypogonadism may reflect abnormalities of the hypothalamus, pituitary, testes or target tissues. When I told people that I was doing an experiment to increase my testosterone, the question that people would invariably ask in hushed tones was, “So, did it, you know, improve your sex life?” Honestly, I didn’t see too much change. Made many mistakes growing up. He also explained to me that I had probably never fully recovered normal test levels from my last “get in shape” run with pro hormones 2 years before and it probably played a part in the weakening of my intestinal wall and immune system and after discussion I realized that I had exhibited all of the text book effects of low T to the letter. Sometimes I feel guilty because I get comments on how I look and my energy levels and I wonder is this too good to be true? But if I am following a strict regiment and bloodwork reports good things…. Do I need to worry about anything else??? This is my story and I have never shared it with ANYONE other than my wife. Big move for me!! Last point……. This is a generalization but…….all women take hormones. It’s is universally accepted and part of a woman’s life without a doubt. Why is it Taboo to publicly discuss men and hormones? I guarantee if you are a man 35 and above and you did dumb things like me and or exhibit symptoms of low T, do yourself a huge favor and go see a doctor and get blood work done. Testosterone replacement therapy can successfully treat erectile dysfunction and loss of libido in men with low testosterone from either advancing age or hypogonadism. Although the effects of increased testosterone are more dramatic in hypogonadal men there are also benefits to the libido of men with normal gonadal, also called eugonadal, function. There are studies that show Soy consumption in humans leads to lower sperm count, but unfortunately they did not look at testosterone levels in the study (40). This (41) particular study compared the estrogen production of men drinking soy protein to those drinking whey. After two weeks they found the estradiol levels were equal, however soy drinkers had LOWER Testosterone levels and HIGHER cortisol levels (both bad).
One study that compared athletes to non-active individuals found that supplementing with 22 mg magnesium per pound of body weight of the course of four weeks raised testosterone levels in both groups.
